Viva Mexico for its warm waters, 6,000 miles of coastline, empty surf breaks and year-round surf! Surfers flock to Mexico’s Pacific coast to hit the beach, point, and reef breaks exposed to both winter and summer swells. Ideal conditions can be found on the beaches with southern exposure during the summer months (May to October) and west facing beaches in the winter. Southern Californians take advantage of Baja’s proximity and frequent these shores year round. Zicatela Beach in Puerto Escondido is Mexico’s surfing mecca and is justly called “the Mexican Pipeline”.
Due to its popularity and affordability, beaches tend to get crowded with tourists during the peak summer season. But Mexico has enough surf to go around with an abundance of uncongested line ups if you’re willing to travel off the beaten path.
Health: Drink the tap water or "dirty ice" if you want to find out what "Montezuma's Revenge" can do to your system! Stick to bottled water at all times! Vaccinations and precautionary measures against malaria, rabies, typhoid, cholder and dengue fever are recommended.
Safety: Muggings are not uncommon so it's strongly advisable to travel in groups and not carry expensive gear. Mexican police will pull over tourists for any reason and often are looking to make a quick buck. Carry small sums of money in multiple locations just in case. |
