The state of Georgia does not conjure thoughts of peeling, glassy waves and rightly so, they are rare. Georgia’s coastline is a mere 100 miles long but offers beautiful secluded beaches as well as many undeveloped near shore islands and on occasion surfable waves. These southern unspoiled coastal regions are definitely gorgeous and remote. If you have the time and skill a boat is the best way to check out the islands and deserted beaches.
For lucky surfing locals hurricanes and heavy northeasters sometimes generate ample waves. Spring is the best season to catch these swells although the summer hurricanes season can also bring some exceptional surf.
Georgia’s beaches are hot and humid with sharky waters that are brimming of sea life including stingrays and skates. Make sure you do the foot shuffle on sandy bottoms on the way out. In August jellyfish are pushed ashore and can sting. Georgia like Florida has alligators so watch out for their tracks on the beach and beware of a basking gator, they can haul-ass when provoked.
In spite of the toothy fauna Georgia offers some ultra un-crowded surf spots and friendly locals. Enjoy.
