Thailand is the most popular travel destination in Southeast Asia. With its deep culture, colorful food and exotic beaches, it’s easy to understand Thailand’s draw. Peak tourist season follows the monsoon season, which lasts from May through October. Fortunately, you won’t be fighting the crowds at the airport since the South West monsoon is what brings surf to the Kingdom of Thailand. The most rainfall is during the May, September and October with just occasional showers in June, July and August.
Most breaks are found in Phuket which also is home of the annual Phuket Quiksilver Surfing Contest held at Kata Beach. You can also find surf spots in most major beaches of Phuket, Samui, Pattaya and Krabi, as well as on the islands of Ko Tao and Ko Chang. Keep in mind that while Thailand is not the surfing capital of Southeast Asia, a great time can be had on uncrowded beaches and ideal conditions. The best part of surfing Thailand is plopping down on a massage table after a long day of cut-backs and duck-diving for a relaxing Thai massage along tree-lined beaches.
